Saying No to Fear
A Message from Leslie
At the moment, all of us are living in a topsy-turvy world. Large servings of fear are being dished out daily by the media, the Internet, and even by our own friends and family members. The question is, how will we respond? It’s all too easy to jump on the bandwagon and believe that somehow being fearful is the “right” thing to do in such a time as this. But God has another way — a triumphant, victorious way — for us to walk through challenging times.
Personally, I have been hit with quite a few unexpected jolts this past week. Events have been canceled, plans have been disrupted, and even grocery shopping has become an overwhelming obstacle course (and yes, we did run out of toilet paper!) At the same time, my younger brother (husband and father of three young children) quite suddenly suffered a severe stroke and was air-lifted to a hospital in Denver for emergency surgery. And my beloved grandmother passed away.
All of this has happened within a very short period of time, and I have definitely struggled with a myriad of emotions. The temptation to say yes to fear and worry has been extremely strong. But God has been bringing me back to some important spiritual truths from His Word that help me choose courage over anxiety.
If you could use a shot of spiritual courage today, scroll down on this page to find articles, podcasts, and other resources that can equip you to replace fearful thoughts with God’s Truth. Meanwhile, let me encourage you with three important reminders. Rather than worrying about what might happen in the future, we can rest in the knowledge that:
- God can turn anything the enemy means for evil into good in our lives. (See Genesis 50:20; Romans 8:28.)
- He will not allow us to walk through trials we are not able to handle. (See 1 Corinthians 10:13.)
- Even when we walk through difficult circumstances, we can triumph through every challenge when we put our hope in Him. (See Psalm 25:3.)
When we lay down our worries at Jesus feet and trust Him with all our heart, we’ll experience the “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow” that God intends us to have — no matter what we are walking through.
Finding courage in Him,
— Leslie
