Spiritual spring cleaning is more powerful than any health detox could ever be! This week’s episode uncovers the reason why so many of us cling tightly to unconfessed sin – we are afraid to give up control in our life to the only One who knows what to do with it. Listen as Leslie talks about important topics like surrender, inviting Jesus into every aspect of your life, and receiving God’s forgiveness.
PODCAST TRANSCRIPT
Surrender is a natural outflow when we continue to cleanse our inner life of sin that is obstructing our relationship with Jesus Christ. Placing every area of our life on the altar – from our relationships to our future to everything in-between – will invite true joy and freedom to flood our lives, making it so we never want to take control of our life again.
Keys to Personal Revival
- Don’t Keep Christ in the Hallway
Imagine your soul as a home. If you have given your life to Christ, He desires to take the rulership position of your home. Are you inviting Him into every room of your house or are you only keeping Him in the hallway?
We often shy away from following through with conviction because we’re afraid to let go of control over specific areas of our lives. However, Jesus desires to be in the Lordship position of our lives so that we can experience His very best! Don’t allow the enemy to worm his way into your heart and warp the nature of God.
- Repent and Turn
Repentance is recognizing that we have been heading in the wrong direction, acknowledging our failure, asking for God’s forgiveness, and – by His grace – turning around and walking in the opposite direction. Grace is sometimes defined in our culture as a hug from God, but true grace is the enabling power of God to do what is impossible in our own strength.
- Receive God’s Forgiveness
Many of us struggle to “feel” forgiven. However, receiving God’s forgiveness is as simple as choosing to agree with Him no matter what your emotions may say. His Word says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us” (Ps. 103:12). The reality of the situation is that we need to choose to agree with God’s Word. It’s dishonoring to God to repent of our sin, ask His forgiveness, and then go fishing to dredge up those past sins and wallow in their remembrance.
Instead of asking, “How do I feel about this past sin?” ask, “What does God say about this past sin now that I have confessed it and repented?”
- Make Things Right
God may lead you to take specific steps in order to make things right with those you have offended or sinned against. Be sensitive to God’s Spirit, and He will be faithful to guide those specific steps of obedience He is asking you to take.
Final Thoughts
Letting God cleanse us from the inside out is more powerful and life-changing than any health detox or spring cleaning routine can be! Yet we so often bypass this spiritual spring cleaning process because of selfishness or fear. If you’re ready to experience the greatest intimacy with Christ and freedom of Spirit you could ever imagine, allow God to shine His searchlight in your soul. You will be so glad you did!
