In light of the recent COVID-19 crisis, it has challenged me to task the question: how do I really make a difference and maintain an outward focus in my own life, while encouraging the Body of Christ to do the same?

While it’s natural to think that we have to be put together, especially articulate, and with an amazing list of qualifications to make a lasting difference in the life of another, it’s often when we feel the weakest that we have greatest impact. Why is this? The answer is simple — we have stepped out of the way and God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness.
Insecurity focuses on our inability rather than God’s ability to do His work through us. Instead of letting insecurity get in the way of the Spirit of God, lay your life in His hands to be prepared as a vessel for His purposes. Cultivate a heart that is willing to serve any way God directs. Reaching others is not about our impressive skill or success — it’s simply our willingness to become a vessel in His hand, get out of the way, and let Him be seen.
Steps to Making a Difference
- Let God Purify Your Motives — ask God to search your heart and lay down any heart-attitude for service that is for your own glory
- Offer Your Fishes and Loaves — start where you are with what you have today and be faithful, even in the little things
- Become a Spiritual Athlete – don’t expect ease, rather seek grace to accomplish what you cannot do in your own strength
Final Thoughts
Making a difference is something we can do in any season — even in isolation. We live in a world where we can reach out to serve others … so let’s be looking for opportunities to share His love with those around us.
