Are you bogged down by the weight of mistakes, failures, regrets, and shame over the past? As daughters of the King, God desires that we be liberated from baggage of the past and set free to walk in unhindered intimacy with Christ. If you are experiencing a blockage in your forward movement with Him, this episode addresses important topics such as the difference between condemnation and conviction, understanding the meaning of repentance, and unpacks the “forgive yourself” movement that is prevalent in our culture today.
PODCAST SHOW NOTES
Spiritual hinderances can hold us back from enjoying true freedom in Christ and must be removed in order to progress forward in our walk with Him. Here are a few important keys to remember when sorting out the details of your past.
- Identify the Difference Between Conviction and Condemnation
Both of these terms can be easily confused if we do not have a biblical perspective.
Conviction: is authored by the Holy Spirit, is born in love from God’ with the desire to see restoration and renewal, always has hope attached to it.
Condemnation: authored by the Enemy, is born out of hate from Satan with the desire to see despair and destruction, focuses on faults and flaws, has no life or hope associated with it.
Do you see the difference? We are to embrace conviction as a sign of God’s love, but we are to steadfastly resist and reject whispers of condemnation which come from the enemy.
- Understand the Meaning of True Repentance
Repentance literally means stopping where you were going and turning around and going the other way. True repentance brings about a true life change; it’s not just praying a new prayer, it’s walking in a new direction.
- Agree With God
Scripture makes clear that god hasn’t asked us to forgive ourselves. He is the Forgiver and we are the beneficiaries of His forgiveness. Instead of asking, “How do I feel about my past?” Ask a new question, “What does God’s Word say about my past?”
FINAL THOUGHTS
As children of the king we don’t have to be weighted down by past sin, regret, and shame — instead we can be free indeed by the grace of God.
