Do you find that you sprint towards the battles and difficulties you face or is your tendency to shrink back from trial? The children of God are not meant to live in isolation and self-protection, but that is oftentimes what we naturally default to as the times in which we live grow darker and more hostile. This week Leslie provides biblical perspective and practical steps you can take to live boldly for Christ and trade reactive living for proactive Christianity.
PODCAST TRANSCRIPT
As the children of God, we are not meant to live in isolation and self-protection but that is often what we naturally default to as the times in which we live grow darker and more hostile. However, we are called to proactive proclaim truth — no matter what it calls us. God desires that we should sprint towards the battles that lie in front of us, just like David who hurried and ran to challenge the giant Goliath.
So how do we shine God’s light in a world that loves darkness more than light?
KEY DEFINITIONS
+ Proactive Christianity seeks out opportunities to boldly proclaim Christ and His truth
+ Reactive Christianity waffles over truth and seeks to self-protect at all costs.
All of us are faced with the decision: what kind of Christian am I going to be?
Historic Christianity purposefully chooses the harder road. Think of examples we have in Scripture like: Daniel still choosing to pray three times a day even though it was against the law, Queen Esther going in to the king unbidden which was deserving of death, or the shepherd boy David who courageously went out to battle Goliath with just five smooth stones.
Key Truth: If we are not willing to live out proactive Christianity on a daily basis, we will not be ready to do so in bigger situations. Gaining victory in the mini-battles we face in the every day will prepare us for the epic battles that we will undoubtedly face.
Practicals Steps Towards Proactive Christianity:
- Do Not Delay Obedience
Prayerfully consider what battles God is asking you to sprint towards today. Are you retreating where you should be advancing in a certain area?
- Go After Souls
Do not give up believing all things, hoping all things, and enduring all things for the souls in your life that are lost. Go after them in prayer.
- Lay Down Your Life
Following Jesus might lead to pain, heartache, persecution, and death — so it is important that we count the cost ahead of time.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Spiritual breakthrough comes when you refuse to let go of God’s promises. Don’t forget what Oswald Chambers said, “[God] will tax the remotest star and the last grain of sand to assist you with all His Almighty power.”
- Philippians 2:15
- Philippians 1:28
- Acts 20:24
