If you are looking for an enticing overview of the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, I’d recommend turning your ears towards Bonhoeffer: The Cost of Freedom by Paul McCusker. This audiobook, produced by Focus on the Family Radio Theater, chronicles the life of Bonhoeffer, specifically revealing how he chose to follow God, rather than yield to government pressure at that key time in German history — World War II. Though I may not agree personally with some of Bonhoeffer’s choices towards the end of his life, I found his bold stance for the truth to be encouraging. Specifically, I resonated with the emphasis that we must be unwavering in our alignment with God’s Word, even when it goes against the trend of culture and government pressure. Yet, even with an unbending nature towards preserving truth, it is just as important that our actions be marked with love. In this audiobook you will see that so often the way to show love to the weak and vulnerable is by courageously standing to preserve truth in the midst of adversity.
