John 15:16 reminds us that we have been chosen and appointed to go and bear fruit for God’s glory. The question that leads many of us to shrink back from the battles that are raging around us is how. How do we stand boldly for Jesus in an ever-darkening age? Today’s culture has adopted a complete disregard for purity and has also developed an obsessive love for death and darkness. What is popular is generally not honoring to God or His Word, but rather than giving into despair over how to make a difference, we must take courage and inspiration from the Word of God — specifically those who made bold stands for Jesus Christ that were counter-cultural to the core.
TWO BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF STANDING BOLDLY FOR TRUTH:
1. Esther — A young woman who found herself in a seemingly hopeless situation. Her people were sentenced to death and the only way for there to be a slim chance of hope was to break the law and risk her own life. She made a decision to stand with God and break the law to uphold God’s Word and ways. The result of her bold stand was that an entire nation was rescued. Remember, God only needs one willing heart or soul to do much on this earth.
Daniel — A man who was taken captive and subjected to a law that prevented everyone from worshiping God freely. Daniel had a decision to make — obey God or obey the king’s edict. His decision to honor the first commandment could have cost his life, but he boldly assumed the position of standing with God no matter the cost. The result of His choice was that God’s power was displayed and He was recognized as the only, true, Living God.
FINAL THOUGHTS
We, too, have similar choices today — protecting our own comforts or boldly standing for the truth. The God of the Bible is still the same God in the 21st century and He is more than willing to change lives and nations today as His people take simple steps of obedience to stand for His Truth.
